This project challenged me take a public domain work and create cover and illustration designs for it that appeal to a 21st century audience. Social Life by Maud C. Cooke is an etiquette guide published in 1896, which details proper behavior and customs from the turn of the century. To appeal to modern readers while staying true to the content, I used a whimsical sketch-like style for the illustrations, and depicted timeless imagery such as a tea cup, a table setting, and wine glasses. The elegant typeface also hearkens to the turn of the century, but modernly clean and simple.
